Common Areas That Are Most Prone To Leaks

Have a toilet that won’t stop running or that pools water at the base, or simply has a spongy floor underfoot? Perhaps you suspect that you have a water leak in the kitchen or in the pipes in other areas of your home — possibly even from your water heater.  Regardless of where or why you have a water leak, once you find one, or if you strongly suspect you have one, you need to have leak repair performed ASAP in order to prevent further damage to your property.

There are a few different ways to identify water leaks, and it may be easiest to begin by observing specific areas of your home:

  • Bathroom:  Check for pools of water around the toilet or tub, soggy floor under the toilet, cracked or peeling paint on the walls or ceiling, cracks in the walls, or mold and mildew growth under the sink or in other areas.  If you notice these signs, it’s probably time to call for leak repair.
  • Kitchen: Check your sink, dishwasher and pipes for leaks.  If you have a dishwasher, it is important that you know which elements you need to check, such as gaskets, hoses, the inlet valve, or the water level, so you can accurately find leaks. Corroded pipes and mold/mildew under the sink are signs of a water leak.
  • Utility Room:  Here you need to observe the water heater.  A leaky water heater could be the result of the T&P valve, condensation beneath the water heater, or a cracked water heater.  Regardless, of the cause, when your water heater is leaking, you need to get leak repair services ASAP.
  • Laundry:  Oh, the laundry room . . . you know very well that doing your laundry can be quite the chore.  If you have an emergency laundry room flood, that chore can be multiplied, since everything is now sopping wet, and you can’t wash and dry your clothes until you take care of the flood.  Common signs to watch for when it comes to laundry room flooding include damp floors or walls, loose pipe connections between the washer and the pipes, and cracked or corroded pipes.  You should also be observant of the drain in your laundry room floor.  If it becomes clogged, you are at greater risk for water damage.
