How Often Do You Replace Your Filters?
South End Plumbing, Heating, & Air Expert Tips
Why Change Air Filters?
Proper maintenance is important for your home’s HVAC system. Your system needs to be well taken care of, in order to keep letting fresh air keep coming through. Your filters are going to stop anything bad coming in through the ducts, but it does mean that you’re going to have to periodically change them. So the question is, how often should you change filters?
Charlotte Tip – Those who live in the city will need to change their filters more often, due to the pollution in the air.
HVAC Filter Change Frequency
The amount of time between filter changes really does depend on your home and location. There are lots of different factors at play that can affect how your home takes in air.
As a rough guide, the filters in your ventilation system should be changed out twice a year. When this happens is up to you, but you shouldn’t be leaving your filters for any longer than six months at a time.
If you live in a brand new home, the timing changes. For the first 6 months you live there, you’ll want to change out the filter every two months. This is because there are still a lot of building materials and debris in the air of your home, even when you’ve cleaned it thoroughly. Changing those filters out means that you’re not breathing them in without realizing it.
The guide changes again, depending on where you live. Those who live in the city like Charlotte and the greater Charlotte area, will need to change their filters more often, due to the pollution in the air. Those in the countryside will have to change them less often, as the air is often cleaner. If you’re not sure, take out the filter and look at it. If it’s dirty, it’s time to change it out.
