Backflow Services in Kannapolis – Preventing backflow in your Kannapolis, NC home or business is not only good for your health – in many cases, it’s required by law. In areas with greater risk for backflow, whether that be from pipes clogging, high groundwater levels, local terrain, or the failure of local water supplies or sewer connections, backflow services will help protect your home or business, as well as the health and welfare of those around you.
There are several different types of connections that prevent backflow, collectively called backflow preventers. In the U.S., the most commonly required types of devices are a double check valve, a reduced pressure principle device, or an air gap. An air gap is the vertical space between the water outlet and the flood level of any fixture. This space must be unobstructed; otherwise, it remains possible for backflow to occur. A reduced pressure principle device is made up of two independent check valves, which are plumbed in series. Between the two check valves is a pressure-monitored chamber, which is kept at a lower pressure than the water supply pressure by means of a differential pressure relief valve. A double check valve is similar in design to an air brake system on heavy trucks. Two spring-loaded valves are kept open by water pressure in the proper direction, but spring closed when flow is reversed.
