DrainsWhen you’re at home and battling a clog in one of your drains, your first instinct may be to grab some of that heavy-duty drain cleaner from under your kitchen sink. However, there are a few other solutions available to you that can get rid of small clogs without heavy chemicals. The best part is that you probably already have all of the ingredients in your home.

  • White Vinegar- While white vinegar can be used in all of your drains, it is a great remedy for your kitchen sink’s garbage disposal. All you have to do is mix two cups of vinegar with two cups of water. Then, freeze the solution in an ice cube tray and grind one or two of these cubes in your garbage disposal on an as-needed basis.
  • Borax- If you have borax in your house, otherwise known as sodium borate, pour one cup of it down the drain with the clog and then add about four cups of extremely hot water. After you do this, wait for approximately 25 minutes and run fresh water down the drain.
  • Boiling Water- Pouring boiling water down your drains on a regular basis can prevent the accumulation of hair and debris in your plumbing system. However, make sure that you handle the hot water carefully.

If you decide to use one of these home remedies, keep in mind that they’re only good for small clogs that have started to slow down your drains a little bit. If you have a bigger clogging issue on your hands, it’s best to leave the job up to us at South End Plumbing.
