The Benefits of Towel Hooks
As well as some of their disadvantages
Being an industry we find that there are some things that never change, and that is that everything in a bathroom is always changing. From finishes and faucets, to tile and tubs, the combinations are endless. The drawback is to many of these upgrades with each one of these, there is always added expense. Changing your towel bars to towel hooks in order to save space is very easy and affordable for any homeowner and that is one of the reasons we feel they have become so popular.
Specific Benefits of Towel Hooks
Towel hooks come in many different sizes, shapes, and finishes. Also the way hooks are mounted are very diverse. There are towel hooks that can hang over the top of a door, towel hooks that can be mounted with a toggle bolt or command strip, and towel hooks that can be mounted with wall anchors. Hooks can also be directly mounted to a door even if it’s not a solid core door. Another benefit of towel hooks is that they do not take up a lot of space. That’s great because most bathroom’s space is very limited. Even in large bathrooms you may have mirrors, windows, plants, art work, fixtures, shelves, and the wall space required to hang a towel bar can be a little crowded.
The space saving aspect and the versatility of where it can be mounted greatly win over towel bars. The actual size of the towel hook as well doesn’t have to be dictated by the design, some can be pretty non-intrusive and some can be very ornate/industrial. The fact of the matter is there is a towel hook for everyone out there.
Some of the Disadvantages of Towel Hooks
Aesthetics
All this being said, there are a few disadvantages to towel hooks. Some people may not like the look of a towel hook, they may think that a towel hook is more casual rather than the towel hanging down neatly and smooth, the towel is gathered and loosely draped. This could be bad cause your inner OCD may be a neat and smooth type of person.
Another aspect of “the look” is there are some walls on the back side of your shower valve that will sometimes have an access door for maintenance or inspection should it arise. You will find that some homeowners homeowners strategically place a towel bar in front of this removable access panel in order to hide it when a towel is hanging from the bar.
Functionality
One of the advantages of towel bars is that due to how there are no folds in the towel, a wet towel is able to dry more efficiently. This is important because when you are are hanging up a bath towel there is a lot of moisture that is absorbed into a towel and if that moisture is not quickly dried by the air, the towel may mildew. Some towel bars have a double bar so you can hang more than one towel and for that reason the space they take up is actually made up in this feature. another thing is that your bathroom may be small but there are always a few places where hanging a towel bar is an easy option. If you have a free standing tub for example there is usually wall space to the left and right of a tub.
Using Towel Bars and Towel Hooks in Combination
The wonderful thing about your bathroom is that it is your bathroom. There are no rules and with the many options on the market you can easily find towel bars and towel hooks that go together well. For most home owners wanting to use a combination of both you can easily find placement that makes the most sense for you. You may use a few towel hooks behind the door, or you may have an old-style towel ring near your sinks that you want to change out for an updated hook. It’s also common maybe that you have additions to the family where you need to be able to just add a few more towels easily accessible. Towel hooks are great for this because you can have many towels hanging up in a small area (even down low for your toddler). If you have a very busy lifestyle and you don’t have time to be folding towels and straightening towels all day, the towel hooks work really well. Most busy parents can hang a towel on them in two seconds flat!
